All of our coaches are qualified Surfing Australia and Australian Coaching Council accredited coaches and have the following minimum qualifications.

- Level 1 Surf Riding Coach (Surfing Australia, Australian Coaching Council Surf and National Coaching Accreditation)
- Senior First Aid Certificate
- Advanced Resuscitation Certificate
- Surf Rescue Certificate / Bronze Medallion
- Working with Children Blue Card


We only use coaches able to take and run a lesson in a manner that meets our high standards, satisfaction and teaching criteria.

As a surf school our aim in each and every lesson is to get you to perform to your maximum ability and have you improve and progress as quickly as possible and to achieve this in an enjoyable, positive and relaxing atmosphere. With this in mind, we strive to ensure our coaches are not only experienced surfers but are also able to impart this knowledge in a positive, patient and understanding manner with a lesson plan that is informative, enjoyable and interesting.

The majority of our coaches are also active patrolling Surf Life Savers at Greenmount Beaches Tweed Heads and Coolangatta Surf Club and/or Gold Coast City Council Surf Life Guards ensuring that we are providing as safe an environment as possible for you when learning to surf with us and when dealing with the ocean and surf. Our coaches are therefore good ocean people with great knowlegde, expertise and experience at not only dealing with the surf and sea but also understand the principles of working with the ocean and maintaining as safe conditions as possible.

We are able to cater for all age groups from the very young to those who may have a few extra years up their sleeve but still young at heart and willing and wanting to have a go at something new. We have taught people from 4 years old to youngsters in their 70’s!

Our rationale is that age is in your mind – if you are willing to have a go, we will happily teach you.

Jamo has been coaching and teaching people various sports for a number of years. Stemming from his own experiences as an elite athlete, he has been lucky to have been trained by some of the best coaches in the country, train with some of our greatest athletes and then also train a number of elite, high performance and promising upcoming athletes in their various fields. Using all these influences and combining them with his passion for sport, fitness and coaching people how to maximise their performance, plus his love of surfing all meld together to get Walkin' On Water Surf School!!

As well as Instructing himself, Jamo trains Surf Instructors in Australia for their Surfing Australia Surf Instructor qualification as well as aroudn the world as an International Surfing Association presenter, training crew in the ISA Surf Instructor qualification. He trains and assesses lifeguards and lifesavers in Australia but also from around the world too. In Australia, he coaches local higher end sessions with a core group of local surfers, is Head Coach of a local Boardriders and is Head Coach for the Surfing Association of PNG.

Dan is a vital leader of our Surf Coaching Crew. He is a great teacher, having had a wealth of experience teaching in Western Australia and now after moving back to his home breaks of Snapper and the Southern Gold Coast, he is using his own exceptional personal surfing ability and combining it with his talent for passing on this knowlegde to all levels of surfer with Walkin' On Water.

Dan not only is a great coach but he is one of the very talented and awesome local surfers. Dan is shown here giving a massive spray on one of his numerous surfing trips, this one to the west in WA.

Trystan is another of our main core of coaches at Walkin On Water. He is a highly competent and experienced coach, coaching surfing for a number of years around Australia and overseas.

Like all of our coaches, not only is highly qualified and experienced insurf coaching, he is also a fantastic guy able to get his knowledge across to those he is teaching and coaching. He is a sensational asset to our Surf School.

Karina is a sensational instructor with us at Walkin' On Water and one of the favourites with our guests surfing with us!

She is fantastic in the water in helping people of all ages and abilities to not only learn a lot and surf waves, but to have a heap of fun while doing it! It is also awesome to have such a cracker lady instructor on board with us who heads up our 'Girls Only Sessions'.

Liam is another of our sensational coaches, who like everyone, is full of life & enthusiasm and is as excited about you getting to your feet in a lesson as you will be!!

Zac joins us to become our first ever School Based Trainee where he will work with us in the surf school while at the same time complete his Certificate III in Outdoor Recreation- Multiple Activities and do a full school load. Zac will be helping instruct lessons, be an extra face at the truck to help with board hires, lesson bookings and providing information and become a major contributor to the smooth runnings of our sensational surf school

Lewis joins the Walkin On Water team as the latest Trainee, being the successful applicant in a highly sought after traineeship opening in November 2009. He has proven to be super enthusiastic, highly motivated and a great guy as well so will slip perfectly into the WoW Crew.

He is a fully qualified Surfing Australia Surf Instructor and his love and passion for the surf and giving our guests the best surfing experience possible shines through in every lesson he does!

He is also a competitve member of Burleigh Heads Mowbray Park Surf Club so his surf skills and surf knowlegde are exceptional plus having lfieguard qualifications, he helps keep our lessons as safe as possible with our other fully qualified Surf Instructors.

Joely is the king of the truck for us this summer. He will be the one you see with us at the Truck through the holidays and on weekends helping us out with forms, boards, rashies, wetties and keeping the Surf School ticking over!!
