Our WoW Grom Squad is designed to develop and progress our young local surfers to new levels in an accelerated regular Program. We offer Grom Squad Programs where crew join up for the Term and surf with us weekly to progress and tweak their skills so that they are constantly in the water progressing and working on new technical aspects of their surfing to take their performance levels to new heights.

All our Grom Squad sessions will be run by our fully qualified Surfing Australia Surf Instructors and will cover the content of the Surfing Australia Safe Surfing Program, which is endorsed by the Australian Sports Commission.

The Starters Groms Crew is designed for those with limited or no surfing experience or ability. It will be an introduction to the sport and cover all the basic techniques and movements to get our new surfers up and riding waves. It will cover the Surfing Australia Safe Surfing Certificate I and will begin to work on Certificate II techniques and progressions once the Certificate I movements are mastered.

Participants will use our safe soft boards to gain a good understanding and foundation of the required movements to set them up for progression to the Cruising Crew.

The Cert II Crew is designed for those with basic surfing experience and ability. This crew will already be reasonably proficient in the correct stand up techniques, ride most broken waves comfortably and be able to confidently paddle out through the inshore white water. Our Grom Squad in this group will progress through the Certificate II competencies of gaining confidence in consistently catching and riding white water waves, turning and dismounting the board on a wave, consolidate board handling and manoeuvring, work on wave selection and negotiate waves consistently and competently on the paddle out and riding back in.

The Crew in this Squad will have the option of using their own soft board or using a variety of ours. We will encourage the use of different boards and different sizes to increase each surfer’s competency and versatility. For those getting their own boards, we recommend the El Nino range which we can source for great prices. These are great performance soft boards.

The Cranking Groms is designed for the next level of surfer after the Cruisers and is aimed at those in the higher beginner/lower intermediate stage.
These Groms will be highly confident in the white water and catch and ride virtually every white water wave in the inshore area. They will be moving out to the larger white water waves in the vicinity of the impact zone catching waves that have more power and speed or progressing out to the green wave zone and catching and riding green unbroken waves.
This Crew will be looking to turn across the face of green waves in both directions, link turns and maintain good board trim to ride the wave as far as possible and as close to the shore as the wave will run, and then be confident to turn around and paddle back out.

If there is enough demand and it is warranted, extra sessions will be added to the current times

The next Grom Squads will be in Term 4 2010.

The Grom Squad is a special program that runs for the designated set number of weeks on the specified dates. It is therefore not possible to swap or alternate dates between this program and other WoW Programs, or to catch up on missed sessions in other Surf School lessons. If there are dates that you know are going to cause a clash, please discuss this with WoW before booking in and paying for the Grom Squad Programs. If we have to cancel sessions due to unsafe weather or surf conditions, these will be rescheduled for the completion (generally for the same day of the week in the week after the Program was supposed to finish) Thankyou
