Taking Surfing to the Royals
Taking Surfing to the Royals during their 2018 Commonwealth Games Visit
With the Gold Coast hosting the 2018 Commonwealth Games and their Royal Highnesses, the Prince of Wales, Prince Charles and his wife the Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla were on the Coast for an official visit to formally Open the Games. As part of their visit, they had many additional events, functions and presentations to attend. We were extremely honoured to be invited to take part in one of these presentations, taking surfing to the Royals and to showcase surfing by demonstrating some basic surf techniques.
We were part of a Sport2Clean presentation. Sport2Clean is an Australian initiative, based on the Gold Coast whose focus is to educate particularly the youth on environmental issues, principally waste and plastic usage and the detrimental effects of this on the environment and ocean.
This is something that we are extremely passionate about – looking after our environment and protecting it for all living things.
It was an exciting presentation to be a part of and it was an amazing opportunity in taking surfing to the Royals and show them a small part and basic introduction on our sport.
